Abstract

The scoring for the Quiz Competition (LCC), which is still done manually, often slows down the tallying of scores, leads to recording errors, and ultimately reduces the transparency of the results in the eyes of the contestants. This issue was also identified among the LCC organizing committee in Kotabaru Village, Cibeureum Subdistrict, Tasikmalaya City, which has long relied on manual score recording without the support of an integrated operational system. Based on this background, this community service project aims to improve operational efficiency and the transparency of LCC scoring through the implementation of simple Appropriate Technology (TTG), while also strengthening the technical capacity of the committee members as project partners. The partners involved consist of 11 LCC committee members, including the chairperson, competition coordinator, judges, moderator, presentation operator, and score operator. This activity used a single-cycle Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach that included the planning, action and observation, and reflection stages, utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint as a medium for presenting timed questions and Microsoft Excel as an automated scoring system. Data collection was conducted through pretest-post-test assessments, a self-efficacy questionnaire, an implementation observation sheet, a practical skills assessment sheet, and an empowerment evaluation questionnaire. The results of the community service program showed an increase in the committee members’ technical knowledge, with an average N-Gain of 0.79—which falls into the high category—accompanied by an increase in self-efficacy with an N-Gain of 0.64 in the moderate category. Score tabulation also became much faster, from a manual estimate of 10 to 15 minutes to less than 2 minutes per round, while the operators’ practical skills reached an average of 88.75% and the committee members’ perception of empowerment stood at 87.6%, falling into the very high category. These results indicate that simple TTG is effective in strengthening the capacity of community committees in a self-reliant and sustainable manner.
