Inovasi Smoker Cabinet Biomassa sebagai Transformasi Limbah Jagung menjadi Ekonomi Produktif

The Community Service (PkM) activity in Marindal II Village, Deli Serdang, was motivated by the low market value of fresh fish and the abundance of unmanaged corn cob waste. The primary objective of this activity was to implement a technological innovation involving a biomass-based smoker cabinet using corn cobs and vacuum packaging to foster a circular economy. The implementation was carried out over two months through four stages: outreach, equipment operation training (pyrolysis techniques), guidance on food safety standards (danger zones), and evaluation. The PkM results showed a significant increase in partners’ knowledge capacity: understanding of hygienic fish processing rose from 40% to 100%, while understanding of biomass utilization surged from 0% to 80%. Technically, the use of corn cobs proved efficient, with a potential combustion temperature reaching 205°C and an energy value of up to 32 MJ/kg through carbonization. Quantitatively, the implementation of vacuum technology extended the product’s shelf life to 24 days, compared to non-vacuum packaging, which lasted only 11 days. This innovation not only reduces production costs by completely substituting wood fuel with waste but also enhances the value of local products to support the village’s economic self-reliance.Downloads
